Conference Week!

It’s been a busy week here at Legacy!  Parent/teacher conferences started on Monday as well as the Scholastic Book Fair.

Yesterday and today (Wednesday) Kaiser Permanente came out to do their “Health Team Four” presentation with kindergarten through 2nd grade and “Choose Your Life” with 3rd through 5th.  These are free presentations that Kaiser does in the community which are really great.

“Health Team Four” is a presentation about healthy eating and exercise and “Choose Your Life” is about bullying. The kids and teachers really seemed to like it.

Due to those presentations, I had to cancel my Tuesday and Wednesday groups but we will be making them up on February 24th and 25th. Monday and Thursdays groups went on as scheduled.

Next week I will be starting classroom lessons on the February trait of the month with is Caring and Cooperation. I will be doing my “Have You Filled a Bucket Today?” lesson with K-2nd and a different lesson about caring with 3rd. For 4th and 5th grade I will be doing lessons on Cooperation.

Groups start today!

I have eight groups starting this week, four divorce groups and four friendship/social skills group from K-5th. All the groups will meet for six weeks. I will have a two to three week break and then I will start my last round of groups the last week of March until the beginning of May.

I also have one more lesson on my schedule to do for “Accepting Responsibility” which is the trait for January. The Legacy Luncheon for this trait will be next Wednesday, January 21st. It’s early this month due to parent/teacher conferences and the book fair taking place the last week of this month.

Hope everyone has a great long weekend!

Resilience

I read a great book over break entitled The Resilience Breakthrough (27 tools for turning adversity into action) by Christian Moore, LCSW.  He tells of his own experiences of poverty, learning disabilities, etc. and how he used these adversities as fuel for his resilience to graduate high school and college, obtain his Master’s degree in Social Work, start a successful business, and write a book!

“Moore delivers a practical primer on how you can become more resilient in a world of instability and narrowing opportunity, whether you’re facing financial troubles, health set backs, challenges on the job, or any other problem. We can each learn how to use adverse circumstances as potent fuel for overcoming life’s hardships.”
