Homework Strategies for Kids with ADHD

This week I was sharing some homework strategies with a parent whose child has ADHD  and I thought I would share:

1. Pick a regular time for homework, away from distractions such as TV, video games, other people, etc.

2. Break homework down into small segments (this makes it more manageable).

3. Give breaks! Have the child complete one of the short segments then take a break and repeat until the homework is completed.

4. After school allow the child some decompression time before starting his or her homework,.

Listening is also hard for kids with ADHD. Practicing active listening skills (i.e. making eye contact, focusing, asking questions, and restating what the person said) will help them to become better listeners.

Have a great three day weekend!
